Contestants:
Children who are 17 and under from any ethnic backgrounds
Age Groups:
6 and under
7 – 10
11 – 14
15 – 17
Participation Requirements:
A. Any child that is 17 and under could participate in the contest. Entry pieces could be anything that is considered green, environmental, or energy-saving. They could be made from recycled/low-carbon products that are both innovative and creative.
B. Registration: a completed registration form (blank forms can be downloaded at here along with the entry piece packaged together and mailed to: 5 Bradstone Sq. Scarborough, Ontario M1B 1W1 Canada.
NOTE: **Entry date ends at July 22, 2011** (All submissions that are submitted after the deadline will NOT be entered in the contest. Please make sure to include “Canadian International Children’s Green Idea Contest” on the envelope)
All contestants should pay a $20 entry fee per piece entered in the contest. All receipts will be used to found the activity fees.
C. Entry piece requirements:
Entry pieces should be inventions/artworks that are green and environmental. It could be both three dimensional or two dimensional. Remember, you can always innovate something new
NOTE: **All entries are NOT going to be returned** so please make your own copies
Evaluation Rubric:
1. All entry pieces should be based on ideas and thoughts the inventor discovered in his/her life. It should be original and should NOT be plagiarized. Most importantly, it should be made by the inventor him/herself.
2. Scientifically: it should be environmental, and logical.
Technologically: it should be realistic, new, and innovative.
Practicality: it should be applicable to daily life, and beneficial to the society or economy.
Creativity: clearly expressed theme, along with a creative and clear train of thoughts.
Hint: be smart when using recycled materials, and try to create something special and out of the ordinary.
Time schedule:
1. Contest starts on March 18, 2011, which will be announced on newspapers and television programs.
2. The formation of judges; it will be consisted of Canadian environmentalists, artists, and teaching/children advisory councils. They will be in charge of evaluating the entry pieces and determining the winners.
3. Entry pieces along with the entry list will be sent to the organizing committee on July 22, 2011.
4. Final Contest winners list will be announced to the public on August 28 2011 during the award ceremony through the media.
5. Exhibition/showcase of the winning entry pieces will start from August 28 to September 3. The exhibition will be held at the Toronto City Hall 100 Queen Street West, Toronto, Ontario, Canada).
Award Distribution:
1. Awards will be distributed according to the 4 different age groups:
– First place prizes will be awarded to 1 per group
– Second place prizes will be awarded to 2 per group
– Third place prizes will be awarded to 3 per group
– Award of recognition will be awarded to 10 per group
Award winners will receive “Canadian International Children’s Green Idea Contest” trophy and certificates.
Other Awards Include:
– Outstanding Instructor awards will also be distributed to the teachers who had first place, second place, or third place students.
– Best Organization Awards will be distributed to schools/organizations with 30 or more entry pieces
– Outstanding Organization Awards will be distributed to schools/organizations with 10 or more entry pieces.
The Organization Committee will publish “Canadian International Children’s Green Idea Contest Entry Collection” during November of 2011. Subscription has already started now.
